SUDEP Aware is a not-for-profit organisation, founded in 2008 and run by dedicated volunteers based in Toronto.

ur mission is to promote knowledge and understanding of Sudden, Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) through:
  • EDUCATION
    of professional and lay communities to enhance SUDEP awareness and ensure early, accurate identification of SUDEP deaths.

  • RESEARCH
    to understand the causes, risk factors and possible prevention strategies for SUDEP.

  • SUPPORT
    for those affected by SUDEP, via collaboration with support agencies, other families and health care professionals.



The co-founders and working members are:

  • Paediatric neurologist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto
  • Reported on the largest cohort of paediatric SUDEP cases whilst investigating SUDEP in children in Ontario, in 2001
  • Member of the SUDEP Task Force, a joint American Epilepsy Society and Epilepsy Foundation initiative
  • Vice-President of the Board of Epilepsy Toronto
