Welcome to SUDEP Aware, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), with the ultimate goal of finding its cause(s) and prevention.  It's run by a partnership between Tamzin Jeffs, who lost her sister to SUDEP in 2007 and lives with epilepsy, and paediatric neurologist/SUDEP researcher Dr Elizabeth Donner..

"People with epilepsy have the right to know that SUDEP exists, and they have the right to be responsibly counselled about how to reduce the risk," says SUDEP Aware's Dr Elizabeth Donner.

Awareness is the first step in finding the cause and prevention of SUDEP

If you know someone with epilepsy, you can help by:
  • talking with them about SUDEP.
  • encouraging them to discuss SUDEP with their healthcare provider.
  • advising them to reduce their risk of SUDEP, and the number of seizures, through:
    • taking prescribed anticonvulsant medications regularly and reliably;
    • identifying and avoiding seizure triggers; and
    • regularly evaluating their epilepsy with their heathcare team.

Volunteers needed - help SUDEP research

Can YOU help new research into SUDEP with information about your own experiences?  Contact us.

People with epilepsy and relatives bereaved by epilepsy are needed for essential research into the best way to inform patients about SUDEP.

If you are over 16 years old with epilepsy OR have lost a close relative (spouse, sibling, parent, child) older than 16 years old due to presumed SUDEP, the investigators would value your participation in this important research.
